Calvary’s first team to Haiti spent the last week of January there helping the hurting people of this devestated nation. We did so in partnership with the Transformational Development Agency (TDA) and Christian Associates (CA). Here are two videos produces by TDA that give a glimpse into what our team was involved in while there. Thank you for giving over $65,000 and over $100,000 in medicines to this effort. More teams will be going to help our partner churches, orphanages, and ministries there over the next few years.
(see my morning faces at bottom of posting – pick the best)
We are asking for your help with a video for our upcoming weekend service!
The video will illustrate the concept of “doing”.
The biblical writer James uses a mirror metaphor in James chapter 1 verses 22-25. We are told that for us to see what the Bible says we need to change about our lives and to do nothing is like a person who gets up in the morning glances in the mirror and does nothing.
We don’t just hop out of bed and go about our day, it takes preparation – it takes action.
The same is true in our spiritual lives.
So we are asking you to send us your best photo of your fresh out of bed – morning look – you know, that morning face.
The key here is how you look WITHOUT preparation – before you look in a mirror.
It will appear something like this:
We will put them together much like this, so your photo will not be on screen alone, or for a really long time.
The more photos we get, obviously the better the illustration. Come on guys, come on ladies, let’s snap some head shots that are fresh out of bed!
All ages are welcome, kids have some of the best “bed-head” ever!
We are looking to have them by Friday, February 5th. We need hundreds! Tell your friends to join us in this “Reality Project.”
Looking forward to it, Thanks!
So here is my morning face from Tuesday (not so happy a look), here is my morning face from Wednesday (at least a smile), here is my morning face from Thursday (look ma no glasses), and here is my morning face from today (with gray, t-shirt) – post a comment about which is best to use for our video:
This is a repost of a posting on Ray Ortlund Jr.’s blog last week (see link at bottom):
Week One: Walk into church today and think about how long you’ve been a member, how much you’ve sacrificed, how under-appreciated you are. Take note of every way you’re dissatisfied with your church now. Take note of every [...]

Some have asked for the whole interview I did with Joni Earekson Tada a few weeks ago about counting our trials a joy. So, here it is. The clips that were interwoven in my message of January 10th total about 10 minutes of this nearly 30 minute discussion. Thanks again Joni!
This also complements today’s message [...]
THANK YOU, Calvary, for stepping up to help with our relief efforts in Haiti.
Last weekend, more than $40,000 was given in the special offering to help Haiti! An estimated $25,000 worth of medical supplies, unused prescriptions, and medicines have been gathered so far from the generosity of the Calvary family, their friends, and others Conejo [...]

Also, below the videos you will find information about [...]
Message from Pastor Shawn
Dear Calvary Family,
As you have seen on the news this past week, the devastation in Haiti is immense. My heart has been broken and I have been stirred to prayer many times. I can’t imagine what it would be like to still be searching for lost loved ones. So, what can we [...]
After yesterday’s devastating earthquake in Haiti, the world is trying to respond fast enough to reach people trapped in the rubble. What can we do now to help?
1) PRAY for the efforts of rescuers, the struggle of family and friends, and heartache of those who are the walking wounded emotionally and physically.
2) GIVE to the [...]
The 19th century pastor and teacher Charles Spurgeon taught his students that every sermon was a work of art - like a wood carving. The challenge for each pastor, so he taught, is to determine what is the final product and what are the shavings or sawdust he leaves behind on the workshop floor of his study.
My blog will be the place where I post the "Shavings" that did not make it into my messages and my leadership conversations - but I believe will be helpful to others.
